sewing vocational school

In response to the profound challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in Adakingo, GARD (Grassroots Assistance in Rural Development) took decisive action by establishing a sewing vocational school to address the community's pressing needs. With just 10 Singer sewing machines and two dedicated instructors, we embarked on a mission to empower young people with essential garment cutting and sewing skills. The closure of schools in Uganda for over two years, coupled with a rise in teen pregnancies, left many girls without access to education or viable employment opportunities. Recognizing this urgent need, the community approached GARD to initiate the vocational school, providing a lifeline for those affected. The success of this initiative has been remarkable, prompting GARD to launch a fundraising campaign for an additional ten sewing machines to expand the school's capacity. Moreover, we are actively raising funds to construct a proper school building to house the machines, ensuring continuity of training even during inclement weather (currently housed in a shed). Through these efforts, GARD remains steadfast in its commitment to uplifting communities and fostering sustainable development in Adakingo and beyond.
